Frans DE LAET starts teaching translation and interpreting in the eighties at the Francophone Graduate School for Translators and Interpreters of Brussels (ISTI – Free University of Brussels) and shortly afterwards to linguists of the Council of Ministers of the European Union.
In the early 2000s, he becomes Dean of his school and Secretary General of CIUTI, the international academy for universities with a translation and interpreting program. In 2006, he leaves Belgium for China. He creates the multilingual translation and interpreting faculty in Kaohsiung and is later invited to teach as full professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
He regularly visits Xi’an International Studies University and Beijing Language and Culture University and in 2008 is elected Secretary General of FIT, the International Federation of Translators. For several years, he serves as trainer in the TAC Summer Training programs.
Currently, he is editor in chief of Babel.
