Discipline Strength

The Discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature at our university holds a prominent position as a top-tier discipline in Zhejiang Province's "13th Five-Year Plan" and "14th Five-Year Plan." It is also distinguished as one of the initial key disciplines with unique advantages in Zhejiang's provincially key universities, being the sole foreign language discipline among such institutions. In the fourth round of discipline assessments conducted by the Ministry of Education, it achieved a B rating, which signifies a high level of academic excellence and places it among the top disciplines in the country.

Furthermore, in the "Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" (GRAS), also known as the Soft Science Discipline Ranking, our discipline secured the 23rd position nationwide in 2022, solidifying its position within the top 10% of its peers.

The GRAS is an annual world university ranking released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, covering 54 subjects across five major fields: science, engineering, life sciences, medicine, and social sciences. It evaluates universities based on a series of scientific, objective, and transparent indicators, including international authoritative awards, top-tier papers, paper quality, and international collaboration in the field. Our high ranking in this prestigious list further underscores the excellence and competitiveness of our Foreign Languages and Literature discipline on a global scale.

Academic Programs

The Faculty is proud to offer one National-level Quality Course titled "College English" and three Provincial-level Quality Courses, namely "Advanced English", "Comprehensive English", and "Japanese". These designations highlight our commitment to maintaining high teaching standards. Furthermore, our faculty members have authored or edited 28 teaching materials, with 5 of them being included in the 11th and 12th Five-Year Plans for National Education Materials, ensuring that our students have access to the most up-to-date and pertinent learning resources.

Teaching Approach

Embracing innovation, the Faculty actively explores teaching reform and adopts the talent training mode of "platform + module". This approach focuses on highlighting professional characteristics and innovating teaching methods, resulting in excellent grades for our English majors in the evaluation of the first batch of undergraduate majors by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Our students' passing rates in various national exams, including TEM 4 and TEM 8 for English majors, are among the top east China’s Zhejiang Province.
