The English Language and Literature program, accredited as a master's degree granting entity by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 2000, stands as a pillar of academic excellence within Ningbo University's Faculty of Foreign Languages. Anchored by the esteemed "Foreign Languages and Literatures Literature" research hub for humanities and social sciences in Zhejiang's higher education landscape, and bolstered by the Zhejiang Provincial University Innovation Team focused on "English Sea Literature and International Communication," our program boasts an English Literature Research Institute and a Sea Literature and Culture Research Center. Our mission is to nurture elite professionals in the realms of British and American literature, English language and cultural studies, and pedagogy.
Through years of dedicated research, we have carved a niche in English sea literature, achieving notable accomplishments in the exploration of British and American novel theories and criticism, as well as in the study of youth literature from these regions. Our scholarly endeavors have been widely recognized, with over 60 research papers featured in prestigious international and domestic journals such as Foreign Literature Review, Foreign Literature Studies, Foreign Literatures, Foreign Literature, Contemporary Foreign Literatures, and Cambridge Quarterly. Additionally, we have published more than 50 books encompassing theoretical works, translations, and compiled texts (including textbooks), while successfully securing 8 National Social Science Fund projects, with one designated as a key project.
At the helm of our program is Dr. Wang Songlin, a distinguished professor. Our faculty comprises 6 professors and 4 associate professors, 9 of whom hold doctoral degrees, ensuring a rich tapestry of expertise and mentorship. Our academic leadership and core scholars, including Professor Tao Jiusheng, Professor Duan Hanwu, Professor Zhang Zhi, Professor He Anfang, and Associate Professor Cheng Wen, are at the forefront of driving innovative research and teaching practices.
Our program offers three specialized research tracks:
1. British Literature: Delving into the rich literary heritage and evolving narratives of the British Isles.
2.American Literature: Exploring the diverse literary landscapes and cultural dynamics of the United States.
3. Literary Theory and Criticism: Engaging with contemporary theories and critical approaches to literature.
