Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies, a second-level discipline nested within the Foreign Languages and Literature field, is deeply rooted in the Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base of Zhejiang Provincial Universities for Foreign Languages and Literatures, the Zhejiang Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Key Research Base (East Zhejiang Cultural Research Institute), and the Zhejiang Institute of Translation Studies. Anchored by the Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Research Institute, the program's mission is to nurture professionals of the highest caliber, who possess cross-cultural insights, interdisciplinary skills, and the capability to articulate Chinese culture on the global stage.

In recent years, our program has led six National Social Science Foundation projects (including one major project), resulting in over 60 papers published in prestigious journals such as Chinese Translators Journal, Foreign Literature, International Sinology, and Guangming Daily. We have also authored more than 50 works, including monographs, translations, and edited volumes. Our research outcomes have been frequently featured in publications like Chinese Social Sciences Digest, Renmin University Reprint, and Xinhua Digest, and have earned us three Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Excellent Achievement Awards.

The program is headed by Dr. Xin Hongjuan, a professor with extensive expertise in the field. Our faculty includes six professors, three associate professors, and seven doctors. Our key academic leaders and core members comprise Professors Tao Jiusheng, Zhang Yun, Zhang Nan, Liu Hengwu, Yin Dexiang, Associate Professors Li Guangzhi, Ge Tibiao, Cheng Wen, and Doctors Li Xue and Feng Yinghua, among others.

We offer three dynamic research directions for students to explore:

Comparative Literature ResearchExamining literary works from different cultures and traditions, highlighting similarities, differences, and the influence of cultural contexts on literary expression.

2. Comparative Cultural ResearchInvestigating the diverse aspects of cultures worldwide, comparing and contrasting their values, beliefs, practices, and expressions.

3. Research on the International Dissemination of Chinese CultureExploring strategies and methods for effectively communicating Chinese culture to global audiences, promoting cultural understanding and exchange.

Join us at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Ningbo University, where comparative literature and cross-cultural studies are not just academic pursuits but passions that transcend boundaries and foster global understanding.
