The MTI program at Ningbo University, approved in 2010 as one of the third cohort of professional master's degree programs in translation by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, stands on the shoulders of giants. Anchored by our nationally acclaimed English program, key programs in Zhejiang Province, and the Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base for Foreign Languages and Literature at Zhejiang Provincial Universities, we are committed to nurturing high-level, application-oriented, and versatile talents. Our graduates not only master the theoretical foundations of translation but also excel in bilingual proficiency (English/Japanese and Chinese) and practical translation skills, making them invaluable assets to the language service industry.
According to the 2021 Chinese Graduate Education Rankings for Professional Degrees, jointly released by the China Science and Education Evaluation Institute, Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation, and Zhejiang Academy of Higher Education, our MTI program shines in the top 14% among 257 MTI programs nationwide, proudly earning a four-star rating.
Our program is fortified by a stellar faculty comprising 53 dedicated full-time instructors, including 32 on-campus master's supervisors and 38 esteemed off-campus mentors. Over the past five years, our faculty has made remarkable contributions, publishing over 100 papers in prestigious journals like Babel, Semiotica, Meta, Foreign Language Teaching and Research, and Chinese Translators Journal. They have also authored over 30 translated works, more than 10 monographs, and co-edited two large-scale dictionaries, while spearheading over 20 research projects at national, provincial, and ministerial levels. Notably, our faculty's stewardship of Ningbo City's government foreign language website has secured the top spot in national evaluations for eight consecutive years.
The MTI Education Center proactively involves distinguished scholars and industry leaders, inviting them to contribute to graduate education via lectures, courses, and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, we have enlisted a team of experienced professionals to serve as MTI practice supervisors, thereby enhancing the educational journey for our students.
Led by Dr. He Ying, a distinguished professor, our program boasts an impressive lineup of key academic leaders and core members, including Professors Tu Guoyuan, Xin Hongjuan, Liao Jing, Fu Rongbo, Zhang Nan, and Associate Professors Huang Dawang, Yang Jianhua, Li Guangzhi, among others.
Tailored to meet diverse market demands and aligned with our educational mission, the MTI program offers three specialized tracks:
1. 055101 English-Translation
2. 055102 English-Interpreting
3. 055105 Japanese-Chinese Translation
